Authentic Sabah Delicacies by Mango Garden Restaurant, Rumah Terbalik, Tamparuli

Being invited together with THP for food tasting at Mango Garden Restaurant during one Saturday.

To refresh a bit of our memory, Mango Garden Restaurant is located at the same location as Rumah Terbalik (The first Upside Down House in SEA), so maybe a light meal after visiting Rumah Terbalik?

- The Outdoor -

Guests might opt for outdoor to have their meal.

- The Interior -

Lovely design for a family and friends gathering.

Quiet restaurant and food was wonderful if you love Malay/ local cuisine.

So here are some of the dishes that we had the other day. :) For the first time I had TUHAU! A local Kadazan delicacy, very tempting.

- Of What We Had -

Generous amount of serving to us. In fact, overall they served very nice meal and there are one or two local delicacies that I'm not really liked it. The way they prepared the brinjal was a bit unacceptable for my taste buds.

- Fried Inked Squids -

- TUHAU! -

Tuhau is a kind of marinated ginger and it acts like appetizer as well.

- Our dessert -

Banana served with dried coconut and brown sugar. Nice combination as they said, the banana might be "too young" to be eaten as it was a bit hard, but with the combination of brown sugar, it blends well.

- The Menu -

According to the owner of Mango Garden Restaurant, they are serving organic vegetables (moreover plant by them too) and even planted some of the spices as well.

- Little Garden -

So, we will be expecting to have organic vegetables when time goes by.

Definitely a good idea to beautiful and adding points to the Rumah Terbalik opened for public.

- The Entrance of Mango Garden Restaurant -

If there's friends asking me where to seek for local delicacies for a change, Mango Garden Restaurant would be the first choice! Comfortable dining in with nice food.

【沙巴游】 Papar - Borneo Cultural Village

During one fine afternoon, I was invited to for a trip to Borneo Cultural Village (BCV) together with THP.

Located at Papar, a new cultural village is running their business to allow tourists and also the local to experience a bit of the Borneo natives lifestyle and tradition.

- Entrance to Borneo Cultural Village -

First impression was great! As if we were entering a real village and with ladies who were fluent with Chinese language for explanation while introducing various tribes which could be found in Borneo.

- Introduction -

Unlike some other cultural villages, BCV offers more than 5 tribes for guests to get know more about Borneo. As far as I remember, we can visit their Traditional Papar House, Traditional Brunei House, Chinese House, Murut House, Penampang House, Bajau House, Tidung House and others as well.

Here are some of the houses and local delicacies and activities that we shall expect when we visit BCV in near future. :) Do enjoy!

- Well designed village -

Clean and well managed area.

- Local delicacies (Lihing and Sago Worm) -

I definitely will not want to try those - Sago Worm. My younger sister and my dad tried them before. Eww...

- Ambuyat -

A local delicacy by the Bisaya/ Brunei Ethnic Group, and it is also can be found in Sabah and Sarawak.

- Blow ipe by  Murut Tribe -

We were able to blow the pipe as well! The pipe which made of huge tree trunk and turn into a blow pipe after weeks and weeks of burning process and etc. In Murut culture, blow pipe was used as a weapon to hunt for animals and their food!

- Tidung Tribe -

The process of fire burning with the native way.

- Bajau House : Playing the traditional instrument -

Beautiful music played by him!

- Traditional Bajau House -

- Traditional Dances -

Besides visiting to the various traditional houses, we have the opportunity to enjoy a few traditional dances and guests were invited to be apart as well!

- Traditional Dances - Murut -

- Poco- Poco -

A type of line dancing that certainly most favoured by guests!

- Lunch -

Simple yet delicious lunch provided. BCV do care about the needs of their guests. At BCV, we can have our meal at either one of the following restaurants - Serve No Pork Restaurant, Chinese Restaurant (with pork) and even at the Korean Restaurant.

That's the end of our trip to Borneo Cultural Village!

VLOG - 2 Days 1 Night at Manukan Island! Awesome!

A sponsored trip by Tropical Holidays Paradise.

And here's a video for the trip!

Do enjoy! :)

- VLOG -

A video that says about the trip, from food, accommodation and facilities.

Trip was great with THP, we had a lot of rest by eating and sleeps! Finally a relaxing trip away from the city.

Here are some of the beautiful and interesting stuffs that we might expect from staying overnight at Manukan Island!

- Beautiful weather -

Out of expectation that it was my first time overnight at the island. The whole trip was relaxing (if your purpose is to relax). A very quiet place to chill with family and maybe a small group of friends.

 - At the Living Room -

Enjoyed the couch and the movie! It was RIO played by the way!

- Chalet for the night -

Compacted with basic needs! And do bring some snacks or beverages in case you might need them as supper. For your information, there's no convenient store operating since evening. We thought we could find snacks later, and in the end we were once sitting at the couch... drinking..... sky juice (plain water).

So remember! Bring your snacks!!

 - Panoramic View from Manukan Island -

There's a spot for sunset view, however we need to walk for a distance to catch the sunset before dawn. Thought we could have a drink and enjoy the beach at their Bar but we were late and they were close. Anyway, our dinner was complete with Long Island Iced Tea. :)

- Our Dinner -

Local flavour of Malaysian cuisine.

The beverage that I had with meatball-online made us a bit... drunk and we knock off early that night.

And that's complete our night.

The early morning comes...

- Morning Walk -

A short walk with meatball-online and I saw beautiful calm sea, beautiful sun rays and a special guest! The monitor lizard passing by.

- Morning @ 7.45am -

Very calm right? There's very few people that will swim that early.

- The Jetty -

Very seldom that we could see such a quite island. AWESOME!

 - Breakfast -

Very simple breakfast that we had and certainly I love them!

So, we went back, rest a bit, a short photography session with my sisters and off we went back K.K.!

 - Chillin at the Jetty -

Thanks THP for being generous to sponsor us the short trip to the island. Love and enjoyed the time!

Location :
Manukan Island - One of the island of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.
