Sabah Travel : Here We are at Polumpung Melangkap View Camp Site, Kota Belud (VLOG incl.)

Sabah : Kota Belud
Vlog - At the bottom of the post.

It was quite a relaxing week for me to have small trips to Kota Belud, Papar and around KK City. What I could say is, I have quit my job for rest and it would be online days to keep up for myself  and take care of my mind and body health during this short period of time! Maybe short trips to any places that might interest me too! :)

Back to my trip that I had on Monday, it took us about 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours to travel by land from Kota Kinabalu City to Polumpung Melangkap View Camp Site.

I have heard about the beautiful scenic view of the camp site and looking forward to see it personally :)

Welcome to PMVCS.

The trip was organised by Good Country Tours and Travel Sdn. Bhd. and it is always fun to have great companions to travel along.

Camp Site

Polumpung Melangkap View Camp Site equip with cooking area, fire camp area and it is beside the river where we could bath as well.

During usual day, the river shall be crystal clear clean and we could clearly see our magnificent Mt. Kinabalu from far as well. We were unlucky that there were heavy rain and flooded the day before we visited the camp site. The area was affected and we were glad that we made to the camp site anyway.

Where we walk to the camping ground.

In fact, I never experienced camping. I wonder how it would be.

We had our lunch and enjoyed ourselves with other guests while playing some poker cards as well.

Fish Feeding

Polumpung Melangkap also having "Tagal", however, there will not be a Tagal season until further notice as explained by the old woman who was the fish food to us.

Could you see how clear is the river water? We could see fishes in small and large sized swimming here and there, especially from a distance.

Happy fish, happy us! Do not catch the fish! :D

Sabah : Yearly Grand Market of Kota Belud (KB Tamu Besar)

Kota Belud, Sabah 沙巴, 哥打毛律

It was my first visit to Tamu Besar of Kota Belud. My dad mentioned about it sometime last month, checked on Sabah calendar and it happens to be on 22nd and 23rd October this year.

A brief understanding on Kota Belud (KB) - Kota Belud is a town located in the West Coast Division of the state of Sabah. It is located roughly at the midpoint of the federal highway connecting the state capital of Kota Kinabalu and Kudat, near to the northern tip of Sabah.

The town is considered the unofficial capital and gateway to the heartland of the Bajau people. It is also noted for its open air market, or tamu, which is held every Sunday. Once a year, the tamu is held on a much larger scale. During this time, it is known as the Tamu Besar or Grand Market.

- Horse Riding -

Ever heard from Cowboy of the East? Cowboy of the East also known as the Bajau. The largest tribe could be found in KB.

During Tamu Besar, the Horsemen will decorate their horses and bring them to competition. Well, it was sad to say that I didn't stay longer and the said event will be later in the afternoon.

- Snap -

The horse in the above image was for photography purpose only. The authentic Bajau horsemen will decorate their horse even eye catchy with bright colour, same to the horsemen.

More photos from 2012 by Eddy to view here.

- One of the iconic item -

When we see this, it means that its the beginning of Tamu Besar!

- Basket weaving -

- The fabric -

A traditional pattern fabric which represent the Bajau. Normally will folded into a headgear for the men.

- Kuihs -

The local delicacies. It is hardly to see so many local cakes at one time! Penjaram, "The Pipe", Malay donuts and etc.

- Traditional attires -

We do noticed that the native here are normally wear traditional clothes in black.

- Beads and accessories -

Handmade items can't be avoided from beads. Different designs carries different meanings too.

-Traditional snacks/ tobacco -

Saw the old man, old lady munching the red coloured snacks one side in their mouth? That's the purpose of the brown dried tobacco and the white consumable chalk.

While the yellowish loaf item was the real beeswax for our lip! That's my first seeing such traditional nature goodness.

- Local delicacies -

- Introducing local delicacies -

-Traditional food cover and local delicacies -

- The Chinese -

Mainly Hakka in Kota Belud. We could see the diverse culture at one market in Sabah, which is a very good norms to adopt. Loving our land, culture and remaining the culture should be educated from young.

- Necklaces and head accessories -

I bought one head accessories for keeping, loving it and not frequently found now a days. Luck perhaps? Moreover, there's limited size!

- Cheapest Snack -

Bought few Apam Balik with cheap price! RM0.50 each was surprising! And you know what? One of my reader told me that the old man selling his snack with the same price for ages.

- Vegetables -

The best thing to do at Tamu is buying the local vegetables with cheap prices and its fresh. 😊

That's all for our yearly Tamu Besar visiting. Good experience for the first time.

Set your plan to visit our KB Tamu Besar next year if you happen to come Sabah next year. 😉

Kota Belud【沙巴玩】Nature & River Cruise Trip 古打毛律一日游 #FireFlies #Birding #NatureLover

Kota Belud, Sabah. 沙巴, 古打毛律。

It was the first trip to explore the nature side of Kota Belud. Before this, I had the chance only to have a bowl of Kota Belud noodles or a passerby to reach another town. I do admire the paddy field that Kota Belud could offer, it was a calm sight. :)

It took us roughly two hours to reach Kota Belud. There were a few scenery spots that Jeremy brought us too and here are some of the extraordinary home to the villages/ native that we were able to experience.

- Mechanical Hand Water Pump -

Kota Belud Day Trip - Mechanical Water PumpWe had to chance to experience the mechanical water pump at Kota Belud!
Posted by Meitzeu.com on Sunday, 3 January 2016

Serving the villagers since 1980's until the era where electrical pump was introduced.

Everyone was excited to see the mechanical hand water pump and even took a short video with it!

- Assembly of Scarecrows -

It frighten us when we were getting nearer to the secondary school, we saw many "people" in clothes was assembling at the field. In fact, the school was creating a Malaysian record for that event "Orang-Orang".

- Paddy Field, The River, The Sky, The Breeze -

- Kota Belud Town : Almost 100 years staircase -

A staircase for the villages to bring things to sell at the weekly market. It was there since many years ago.

- Kota Belud Noodle -

Tuaran have Tuaran Mee, Tamparuli have Tamparuli Mee. Non the less, Kota Belud do have their noodle "branding" as well. The coffee shop located at the middle of the blocks of shops. It was sad to say that the shop will be abolish soon and the whole area will be uplifted into bus terminal.

The bowl of noodle maybe will be the last time we had.

- Temple -

#OnlyInSabah We appreciate every culture and religion in Sabah, even the temple was located next to a Islam school. We should respect another religion, we respect them and vice versa.

- Penjaram -

Jeremy told us that they have a local delicacies served during tea time. We had a cup of coffee with Penjaram, banana fritters and others. It was tasty and clean serving that Borneo Bayau offers. A family based tour company that I often believe.

- Selfie with Horse -

Did I told you that Kota Belud also know as the home to Cowboys from the East (The Bajau Horsemen). The villagers believe that horses are the symbol of wealthy and the during Tamu Besar Kota Belud, an annual event held at Kota Belud, the Bajau Horsemen will dressed their horse and ponies in respondents customs, while displaying their unrivaled horse riding skills.

We were lucky to witness and even had a ride on the dressed horse that the Bajau horseman brought to the compound of Borneo Bayau Tours. Such an obedient horse he have.
Bajau horsemen dress their horses and ponies in resplendent costumes, while displaying their unrivaled horse-riding skills. A great time to witness traditional sports such as buffalo racing and the crowning of the Sarempak/Senisip Beauty Queens. Check the event listing to see when this year's Tamu Besar Kota Belud will take place. - See more at: http://www.sabahtourism.com/destination/tamu-kota-belud#sthash.amuRhlhN.dpuf

- Tempasuk River -

It was time for us to have river cruising along Tempasuk River. It is another river nearer to Kota Kinabalu that we could enjoy the nature and even to search for the famous PROBOSCIS MONKEYS! They have big size Proboscis monkeys there!

- We found Proboscis Monkeys -

- Proboscis Monkeys -

We saw the local Malay Bajau houses along the river. IT WAS HUGE! Different feeling during the river cruising.
