Sandakan : The Local Taste - J1 Bak Kut Teh

Sandakan, Sabah.
Non Halal.

Many said that we must visit XXX Bak Kut Teh or YYY Bak Kut Teh in Sandakan. As for me, I always said that each restaurant having their own unique taste that defines themselves and individual preference are not the same as well.

During my trip to Sandakan with my parents for wedding occasion, an auntie who are also a local and they always go for J1 Bak Kut Teh for authentic savory soup.

Always find that old shop having unique and delicious serving.

A good one no need to be loud, a spread of words would have been enough.

Fresh Lai Mang (Rabbit fish) Bak Kut is a must in Sandakan. Indeed that J1 BKT soup are savory and peppery.

Normally when we have Lai Mang, each of us would have one to be finished.

Cabbage.

Only knew that we can have our cabbage with Bak Kut Teh. Normally we will have to order ala cart menu for frying vegetables as side dish in KK.

 Three layered pork belly.

Our varieties for lunch.

Did I told you that Bak Kut Teh we can have as breakfast and lunch? People in Sandakan have BKT in such a way, West Malaysian as well. Us in KK are catching up on having BKT as early as 8.00am. Guess, the local KK won't eat BKT as early as 8.0am, but the tourist will be a yes I suppose.

Prawn BKT.

In Sandakan, people are fussy about food, especially seafood. Seafood BKT is a must in Sandakan, it's because of the fresh seafood that we could have!

Chinese Spinach BKT

I have a lot of good meal when I visited Sandakan each time. And I'm actually planning for another food trip to Sandakan! Hopefully to get a few more friends to share the bills too!

That's all for today!

Sandakan Eats : The Best Coffee and Cheese Cake by Equator Coffee, Mile 4 【山打根吃】 起司蛋糕与咖啡风情

Sandakan, Sabah. 沙巴, 山打根。

It was a random thought before heading to Equator Coffee. :) Vincent, the owner of Equator Coffee is a blogger who tagged me at my Twitter account months before and once invited me to drop by his cafe if I happen to visit Sandakan.

So and so, there we were sipping coffee and eating delicious cakes! The environment is cozy, with hint of vintage interior and more over friendly helpers. Greeted by friendly helper while Vincent was preparing coffee for customers.

- That's Vincent -

- Caramel Macchiato -

- Cappuccino -

Smooth coffee taste and we simply love the drinks that Equator Coffee serving. Being one of earliest cafe in town and which sustained until today truly remarkable and it is the recommended one when we visit Sandakan in the future. Mr. Hubs told me that he love Equator's coffees and we do miss it a lot!

Mr. Hubs even said that "HAIYA! Equator Coffee still the best!" (after tasting some of the cafes in KK after our visiting to Sandakan.)

 - Tiramisu -

It is the best in town! :D Hint of brandy was noted, but in actual taste, the alcohol tasted even more. To suit the local taste buds, Vincent's wife have to modify the recipe. :)

- Pumpkin Cheese Cake -

I love this! Creamy pumpkin cheese cake. Taste of pumpkin is something special for me to try.

Sandakan Eats : "Cow Dung" Ice Cream & Desserts by 7-Heaven, Mile 4

Sandakan, Sabah. 沙巴, 山打根。

Immediate after our dinner at Four Points, we went to the well known 7-Heaven Dessert Parlor for desserts. And guess what? :) I met few of my KK friends who also went to Sandakan for short trip. That's how we laugh when we met each other!

- 7-Heaven -

Located at Mile 4 of Sandakan, whereby the area is one of the favourite spot of the locals, especially the Chinese. And just to let you know, few good cafes and restaurant are there!

- Crepe and Ice Cream -

The ice cream we choose was Green Tea. About the taste, I think the taste of green tea is quite light, unlike the one we had from Crowd Nine which green tea tasted generously.

- Waffle Ice Cream -

Basically, the flavour of the ice cream is chosen by the customer, not fixed. ;)

- Mango Yogurt Ice Cream -

I named it the "Cow Dung" Ice Cream. It's a must to have this if you happen to visit Sandakan. We heard so much about 7-Heaven and saw the above ice cream for quite sometime, thought that it's an ordinary ice cream flavour. Now that I knew.

Its a healthy ice cream for sure.

- The Station -

Crowded place for ice cream. Heard that the restaurant next door - 5 Fingers is also owned by the same owner and recommended as well, we shall try it during our next visit then.
