Malaysia Guide : Melaka/ Malacca (V.1) : 2 Days 1 Nights 【马六甲游】

Hey~ It's Christmas eve, how's everyone doing? :D My day should be okay hopefully, guess will be chilling with my Haagen Dazs green tea ice cream later in the afternoon. :P

I knew that I have written an Overview on my Malacca trip during September and FINALLY, I'm finishing my complete list of foods and visiting places now with all links in a row!! Yeah~

I hereby present you...

FOODS that I have attempted and INTERESTING PLACES that I have visited in Malacca! Just click on those linked words below each photograph to read about my reviews!

Highly recommended restaurant from my personal experience and friends around!

Antiques and many more items that we could personally see.

It is not the best Chicken Rice shop in Malacca although there's many people having chicken rice from that shop. I must say it was over-rated with all the crowds in and outside of the shop. :(

Its all about the history. :) I heard it when I was still a primary school student studying history.

The tradition and I'm loving hand made items. :) Its symbolised the decent way of the Nyonya.

It's another kind of experience during the night. I felt like walking in to another world (the older world).

Highly recommended by local people. I like it there.

- Our Stay at Historical Puri Hotel -

My friends/ readers said that the REAL antiques are there. And FYI, it was my first time writing a review about hotel I was staying, which apparently I found it quite meaningful and worthy for a write up.

That's all for my Malacca Trip 2011 and do enjoy reading all of them.

Have a great holidays for two to three days in a row!

and

MERRY CHRISTMAS to ALL!

Lets jingle jangle all the way. :D

【马六甲吃】 Jonker Street - 娘惹美食 Melaka - Nyonya Cuisine at Nancy's Kitchen

After all the shopping and visiting around Jonker Street and nearby, we went to one of the recommended Nyonya Restaurant at the street behind Puri Hotel.  Luckily we did tried local Nyonya cuisine, if not, there's something missing in our Malacca 2D1N trip. :) And it was actually our lunch before leaving that historical state. ;)

Interesting taste of Nyonya-ish cuisine. Yummy!

- Nancy's Kitchen -

Varieties of Nyonya eateries selection for us. Personally, I like to eat Pai Tee, the crunchy skin with chunky ingredients taste nice. :) But.... I didn't manage to try one during my trip at Malacca. :P

- Nancy's Kitchen -

Located at 15, Jalan Hang Lekir, housed in the old China Cafe. Serving excellent, authentic Nyonya food classics such as "Chicken Candlenut Curry". Besides, small range of local cakes and biscuits are also available for sale! (as referred to Puri Hotel's food lists)

Surprisingly, the style of Nyonya cuisine being served/ cook ARE SIMILAR TO MY DAD'S STYLE OF COOKING! However, Nyonya cuisine is much sweeter in term of the sugar added in their meal. :) That's make me smile and both of my parents while we were having lunch  at the restaurant. :D

- Nyonyas in the early 1930s -

Dressed in the timeless sarong-kebaya. Nyonya is the term for the ladies while the gentlemen will be called as the "Baba". Both of it are terms that represent the ethnics Chinese population in Malaya during earlier days while being influence and adopted the local communities' custom. For well defined about Peranakan Chinese, read more from here (click).

Here comes the NYONYA DISHES!

- Spring Rolls a.k.a. Popiah -

Served with Fried Pork Oil was something different and being served HOT was additional points to it! :)

- Right : Assam Fish Fillet -

OMG! My dad prepared Assam Fish like that too! But with not much sugar added one.

- Pork Pong Teh -

I could not agree more with my dad's cooking of his style of Babi Pong Teh. OMG! Anyway, my dad added Red Carrots in it. ;)

Sedap! (Tasty!)

- Chicken Candlenut Curry -

It was recommended by the friendly person in charge and I didn't expect the dish was recommended in Puri Hotel's list of food as stated before! :) Luckily we did ordered it when we were there.

Beside those dishes, we had Kangkung Belacan too! Nice selection of local vegetables dish.

- Local Cakes -

After we finished out lunch, we headed downstair to settle our bill and there's so much cakes to select and we were chocked when the spices were all over the places. Chocked with the smell of spices, how was that? :D Smells great no matter what.

Before I headed to Malacca (while I'm in KL had a tea session at Nyonya Colours, Mid Valley), I thought I could find local cakes every where in Malacca or places I will be visiting and it turned out to be Nancy's Kitchen selling more around Jonker Street. However, no worry! I had another tea session at Nyonya Colours again in KL later! :) So, wait for the updates!

- So cheap!! -

Good food with reasonably cheaper compared with our similar lunch or dinner in KK. We had our lunch there, with all those dishes by paying RM67.75 Only. :)

Satisfying lunch we had before going back KL on our Malacca trip and I will always remember my dad's style of cooking (learned from his mother a.k.a my grandmother)! :)

Guess, one nice Nyonya Cuisine in the list for my mom and others on their trip next year. ;)

【马六甲游】 Melaka - Evening Walk at Jonker Street! Awesome Food Street!

After a short rest at the hotel and recharged all the energy we used before, we continued our next must do mission. Once again, Jonker Street Night Market to be explored and it is a whole day street market during weekend!

Hawkers serving nice and cheap food, stalls selling cheap and average goodies and more. Non the less, the antiques and famous painted slippers selling around.

- Walk walk walk -

Three of us explored Malacca by foot. Walking by foot and trip with parents, it only allowed us to visit limited tourists spots and in the end, I only managed to explore Jonker Street area most of the time.

It is still nice walking free and easy without worrying to much with the places which we are going to visit anyway.

- Jonker Walk -

-_-" Dad took my photo for me which I thought he can't took the whole main entrance with me in it. :(

- Jonker Walk -

I really in doubt with the Chinese wordings of 鸡场街文化坊, why it was named "Chicken Farm Street Cultural Zone" (direct translation) and why Jonker? HMm :S

- The Stage -

A permanent stage for people to enjoy their Karaoke with a little fee charged for each song they are singing. And you know what? I actually sit there with my parents to listen the songs they were singing and surprisingly mom met her business rival (long time ago and let the past left behind) at the audience area. He even sang a song or two at the stage and he enjoy that since long time ago! :D

Aww~ Malacca having such Chinese culture and that is a good practice to pass on to the next generation. :')

- FOODS -

Oh well~ Cut the story short and see for more photographs shown here! :)

- Beaded Nyonya Slippers -

- Geographer Cafe -

- The day getting dark -

I walked from one end to the other and I realised that some or most of the market sellers were actually the same person we saw during the day (click) but they have shifted themselves to another place along the street.

In fact, along Jonker Walk, there's varieties of foods and fashionable goodies can be purchased and we only need to worry about our money, whether enough to spend or not. :D

- Walked into a small street for foods! -

And mom actually remember the cheap Japanese food she had before and OMG! So much food to choose and I don't know what to eat.

- Nom Nom time -

In the end, Sushi is my choice. If I'm not mistaken, the whole plate of sushi cost RM18.00 ONLY for two pax!! Cheap or not?

:) That's my dad busying with his noodles, he adores Malacca foods and you can't imagine how he love Malacca food. Gosh!

- The Stage -

A concept just like the Opera Stage like olden days for public to enjoy the music and performance. So many elderly I tell you. And mom said that she thinks she saw Singaporean movie Star as one of the audience there sitting behind. :)

Anything could happen in this famous Malaysia travel state and same to other places too. :) Did I told you my sister's BFF went to Paris and she saw Louise Koo (古天乐) over there and a friend of mine even met Tom Cruise at Italy during his shooting for latest Mission Impossible movie! AWWESOOMMEEE!!

- Jonker Walk Night Market -

Oh well~ We walked back to the hotel after we enjoyed those performance for a while and we even dropped by a restaurant for CENDOL again!

The same phrase I wanted to say, I still prefer Jonker 88's Cendol! :P

Mom enjoyed herself buying decorations of the small wooden flats and Feng Shui decorations while dad busy searching for local delicacies. -_- And as for me.... BUSYING CHIK CHAK CHIK CHAK with my camera and trying local food too. :)
That's all for today,

Happy Deepavali and Happy Holiday to you all!

【马六甲吃】 古城鸡饭粒 Lunch at Famosa Chicken Rice Ball, Jonker Street

They told us that we must go and eat the famous Chicken Rice Ball during our trip to Malacca.

Yes, we did tried the Chicken Rice Ball as our lunch by one of the shop in town.

- Famosa Chicken Rice Ball (古城鸡饭粒)-

- Queuing up to place order -

- Famosa Chicken Rice Ball (古城鸡饭粒)-

I was walking with both of my parents and I saw few shop carrying the same name around Jonker Street, therefore, a perception of mine the shop might be famous and having tasty Chicken Rice Ball to eat.

- The Drinks -

Yea~ Went in to the restaurant and had a seat, ordered our Chicken Rice ball and other additional dishes.

Nothing to say much about the drinks, it just a mixture of syrup which I felt like drinking plain cold water with a bit taste in it. :(

- The Roasted Chicken -

- The legendary Chicken Rice Ball -

Well, we were a bit disappointed with the Chicken Rice Ball during our lunch and I think my aunt who is originally from China can make even better rice balls! Yummy!!! My mom was laughing when I said that!

- The outlet which we had our lunch -

I don't know why, but I saw many photographs of  movie stars together with the person in charge of any stalls, hawkers, restaurant especially and etc. Indirectly, promoting their business we may see.

My lunch was okay for that day, but I'm kind of sad that I didn't went to the correct shop for Chicken Rice Ball. :( And Shhh~~~ They told me that (after I came back to KK), we suppose to  go to Chung Hwa which located next to the river of Malacca and the Red Buildings area for the exotic Chicken Rice Ball! But.... we have to wait for a LONG QUEUE!! :D

Ohh~ Malacca~ I miss your Cendol!

【马六甲游】 Day Walking at Jonker Street

As I mentioned before, I went to Malacca on a Sunday morning and Malacca was crowded during the weekend for the whole day, from morning until night! :)

Oh yea~ Entering Jonker Street which located behind our hotel (click) after we left our belongings at the hotel!

And I was excited about the must visit spot of Malacca!! I love to learn more about culture!!!

- Jonker Street -

"A definite haven for antique collectors and bargain hunters. Authentic artifacts of relic, some dating as far back as 300 years, can be found among host of interesting collectibles, each with its own history, and mystery. Jalan Hang Jebat, formerly known as Jonker Street, is known worldwide among famous antique collectors as one of the best places to hunt and bargain for antiques." - by Puri Hotel.

- Collectible items -

Varieties of collectibles from watches, plates, coins, electrical items and more are offered at Jonker Street.

As for my opinion, I love Malacca despite on their food and things to see and learn. However, the Sun was driving me crazy during my trip over there, and I was darker by one tone on my arms and shoulder -_-  until.... NOW!

- Black Disk -

Mom was searching for some collectible items and she bought the black disk! And the disk is usable though. Collectible items somehow will make us remember about the past, when we were still young and free. *Dreamy Lane* Even Teresa Teng Old Disk can be found too!

- Traditional Attires -

Pretty Kebaya and Cheong Sam attires were sold all over Malacca. However, the pricing is also depends on the quality and shops you were searching at. Sadly speaking, I didn't own a set of my own, maybe in the future I will buy/ tailor made a set of Kebaya. :)

- Shoes for Bound Feet  -

Read here to know more about Foot Binding. In Chinese, it is also called “三寸金莲”. Which in the olden days, ladies with smaller feet size were more preferable.

- Wedding Baskets -

Once, they used those baskets are a symbol of marriage. :) Very interesting facts and my mom collected so much of similar kind of baskets of different Chinese tribes. If one day, we saw baskets sending over from potential groom to be to brides to be, its normal and I like that! :)

- Hokkien Association -

Maintaining the heritage is the priority and indeed they maintained the originality of Chinese culture and non the least the Baba Nyonya Culture too.

- Famous Chicken Rice Ball Restaurant -

Unfortunately, I went to the wrong restaurant to have my chicken rice ball, which wasn't a good one, even though the restaurant was crowded with tourists. :( Some survey and review from friends shall be the wise thing to do before going on a trip.

- Traditional transportation -

- Candy anyone? -

Addictive one to have! With a little mint flavour.

- Taman Warisan Dunia Jonker Walk (鸡场街世遗公园) -

A few walk from Jonker 88 (click) and we reached the park which I was wondering what was it. Went in there to have a look, in fact, it is rest rooms for public and some seats to have a rest after their tiring walk. :)

- Taman Warisan Dunia Jonker Walk (鸡场街世遗公园) -

- Big Bikes in the town! -

- Beca to ease tourists by substituting tiring walk with a ride around Jonker Street -

- Jonker Walk -

- Jonker Walk -

Introduction about Jonker Walk to those who visited there. :) Btw, the other side of it, is another language version of introduction about Jonker Walk (which I have forgotten to snap it).

Wanna see something that we might not know about Jonker Street?

Scroll down!

- This is Monday morning at Jonker Street -

It is a quite and bored town during the weekday, especially on a Monday (The day I went back KL), Malacca is so much different compared with the weekend. Nothing much interesting, unless we walk from one shop to another to see what they have.

Aww~ That's the usual weekeday and that's all for my day walk at Jonker Street, next -- Jonker Street during the NIGHT!! YAY! I love the NIGHT! :)

Btw, how was your weekend going on?
