【沙巴新鲜事】 亚庇 - 世界环境日 Latest in Sabah - World Environment Day at Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre, Likas

It was my first visit to Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre (KKWC) located at Likas on Sunday, 5th June, 2011.

And on the same day, the world were celebrating World Environment Day too!

"World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. WED activities take place all year round but climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere." - by UNEP

I do love the nature and at least my World Environment Day 2011 was meaningful by participating the launching ceremony held by KKWC this year. :)

- Launching Ceremony of the Refurnished Exhibition Hall of KKWC -

Tagging along with my sister (meatball) from THP who I asked for her permission to tag me along to KKWC while helping her out as her photographer. hehehe :)

- The Floor Plan of the "Water and Wetlands" Exhibition Hall -

The main purpose of the launching ceremony was to introduce to all the invited guests about the newly furnished Exhibition Hall of KKWC. There's a lot of informative and creative information that I have gained from my first visit to KKWC on that day besides participating the launching ceremony as you may read further. ;)

- The Objective and Overview of KKWC - 

Conservation and restoration; recreation and eco-tourism, education and awareness; and non the least the researches that can be done by researchers and relevant parties.

From what I have heard (from tourists guide and visitors) and seen (from photographs attached around), KKWC certainly made their objectives a success since few years ago!

Raising the awareness of public to conserve our beautiful natural habitations and mangroves over here in Kota Kinabalu.

- Short introduction about KKWC -

A short presentation and speech were prepared for invited guests to have an overall perception about KKWC and the importance of preserving our mangroves that normally people won't keep an eye of and treating it as a waste land.

- Launched by Invited Guests - YB Datuk Abidin Madingkir, the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City -

And of course don't forget to read the inspiring words at the right too!

"We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors, we borrow it from our Children" 

Yes. It's true. We need to conserve our nature and letting the Earth to sustain its life endlessly.

- 3 Categories of Wetlands -

Photographs taken when the launching was there and its time for us to have a look inside.

From my point of view, it is a creative way and ideas to introduce to the public about the Wetlands in animated figures. It is one of the effective method to convince the public, young and old in understanding the whole nature system here. :) *Two thumbs up* for having bilingual (English and Malay) over there!

- Natural habitation and species that we could personally experienced -

I never thought that there's so much of living creatures in one Wetland area. From cranes, flamingos, fish skippers, red berry snails and other creatures and Mangroves' species.

Seee~~~ So cute those creatures were!!

- The Cycle of Nature -

Explanation conveyed to us about the whole concept and found it quite interesting where we could press some buttons around and there's the sound of nature we could listened too.  

- The Mangrove Species in Sabah -

I think that's how Api-Api got its name from Api-Api Mangrove Trees.

There's not only one but few species in one Wetland.

- The Water -

See how important it is to human kind and any living creatures.

- Only US who can make the ideas a reality -

Ideas that all of  us can adopt to treat our Water Supply.

- The House and the Man made pond -

Ended our visiting at their newly launched Exhibition Hall and the next will be the personal experience to have a walk at their beautiful Wetland, but unfortunately, we didn't manage to have the walk. :( 

I was quite disappointed actually. :( It was raining heavily on that evening and we waited for a while but the rain didn't stop and we left KKWC.

However, I managed to took some photographs when it was raining. :)

- Pigeons -

Saw this two love birds on top of the roof when it was raining. They were like "kissing" when i saw both of them . :)

- Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre -

The amazing journey will be in there when we have the walk. All kinds of mangrove living creatures that we could see from there!

Furthermore, I even saw there's people taking photographs for their pre-wedding or modelling photography.

- Tea Break for Guests -

Tea break with Malaysian style, serving noodles and other cakes and tarts. 

My World Environment Day 2011 was meaningful this year with information that I never knew before. Yes! We should conserve our mangrove area that is beautiful and WE ARE THE ONE to make it a SUCCESS!

I may not be one 100% understand about Mangrove but at least I try my best not to destroy the nature of this Earth. I heart the Earth. 

p/s: I always get angry when I saw people trying to destroy the Earth slowly with different kinds of methods that could lead to it.
